Where Are You Going?

Just the other day I packed up the boys into the car, turned up Chris Tomlin and headed over to the hospital for my scheduled MRI. I was feeling fine. I had spent some quality time with God that morning, had a good breakfast and was in a good mood. It was going to be a good day!

Then, when we arrived, we were told that there would be a delay because an infant was brought in that needed to be taken care of. So…. I waited.

I began to get moody, irritable and started to wonder why I was there in the first place. I mean, was my hearing loss that bad? Could I really have something else going on in there? Finally I was called to go back into the room. I laid down on a cold table, carefully placing my shoulders and my head in their appropriate positions between the brackets. I started to feel the machine moving, ert, ert, ert, ert, was all I heard. This went on for about 20 minutes or so then I got a complimentary dose of dye in my veins and got to do it all over again. This long span of time in the waiting room and now inside the MRI machine gave me too much time to think. I became frightened and weary. I have consumed myself with so many thoughts of what could happen that I have let my house go, gotten behind on schoolwork and I now have twice as many errands to run. It is going to take twice as long just to get back to where I was.

Just the week before, I attended a Live the Dream ladies conference at our church. One of the guest speakers was Christine Caine from Hillsong Church in Australia. She spoke of a time when she became so busy that she jumped on a train to get to Redford but noticed the train went in the opposite direction when they began moving. She thought to herself, “What is going on here?”

It was only after a long ride from Bricktown to the Blue Mountains that the reality of the situation occurred to her. As she stepped off of the train throwing up her hands and her face bewildered she said, “How did I get here?” Just then a kind gentleman said to her, “Well that’s easy mate. You got on the wrong train.” She had indeed jumped on the wrong train and would now have to travel back to Bricktown then wait for another train to get to Redford. It would be twice as hard and twice as long to accomplish what she set out to do. All of this happened because she lost her focus and got on the wrong train.

So many times we jump on the wrong train of thought and end up in the wrong place. We then start to wonder how we ended up there.

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter. Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Phillipians 4:8

I jumped on the wrong train too. I am on my way back to get on the right train of thought that will get me to where God intended me to be in the first place. I am absolutely certain that my test results are fine. I am only having them done to rule out certain things pertaining to my hearing loss. I am no longer thinking those negative things. They have no place in my mind. I am focusing on what is good, what is Godly and what is worthy of praise.

What train are you on?

UPDATE: My MRI came back fine. I have no growths or anything of the sort causing the hearing loss. Praise God! Now on to more tests… gotta stay on the right train though! ;o)
