My response to little foot, um, I mean… Andrea‘s post.
My little sister is my best friend. Okay so she isn’t that much younger than me but she is still my little sister and we haven’t always been the best of friends either (there was the brick to the head incident but that is a story for another day) but now we are inseparable. In fact, so much so that the following events transpired. It starts wayyyyyyy over a year ago – September 2007 – when I gave my sister a gift card for a day of beauty at a local spa. I wanted her to know how much I appreciate all that she does for me and to take some time for herself. I asked her over and over when she was going to the spa and she always would say, “Soon, Amy, soon.”
Well, nearly a year passed and then, for my birthday in April of this year, I received a gift card in the mail for a day of beauty at the same local spa. It was from “tista” and it said, “Now I’ll go since we can go together!”
So, we waited until she quit her super horrible job and then arranged to spend the day together. What an adventure! Oh my.
First, she made me get up early – REAL early – and with bags under my eyes and not enough caffeine we showed up at the Spa. Andrea is chosen to get her half hour facial first. I offered to go so I could take pictures and record the event because I am just snap happy like that and it had nothing at all to do with this blog post. But nevertheless, I was told I could not go because there was no room for me. I stayed behind and read my book and chatted with the nice people who worked there.

Andrea finally came out, red faced (not from the facial), and informed me that there was a chair in the room and then said, “Good luck!” I had no idea what she meant but I knew that cucumbers and a mask weren’t involved because unlike some people’s sisters, I have had a facial before.
Now facial lady did not scare me because I was able to quickly draw out her presidential candidate of choice and we had a lovely conversation about the state of our nation. Okay so it wasn’t that lovely. Apparently, although she had already made her decision, she was still not very keen on the stances each candidate takes on the issues. I made her aware because I’m politically correct like that. ![]()

After the facial she scooted me out and sent me off for a manicure. My sister looked relieved (or concerned maybe?) that I was smiling. She whispered while gritting through her teeth and in my good ear mind you, “You could have come in the room because there was plenty of space and they even had a chair!”
We laughed all the way to the manicure stations where I met my manicurist/pedicurist/hair artist/makeup person for the day. Yes, she and I were stuck together like glue and yes, she obviously was a specialist in many areas of beauty. I learned quite a bit about her and her family and she educated me on the hazards of home dye. Ha! As if I’ll quit. That is like taking paint away from an artist. I use the good stuff. It is all natural and it
looks good. The difference is I pay about 70% less for it. If she only knew how much my sister used she’d flip. Or, if she knew about the time my brother dyed his blue she’d surely have a breakdown. I tried to tell her that me, my brother, and my sister all have this calico hair condition and we have to dye our hair or else we look goofy. I mean. we literally grow several different greatly contrasting shades of hair all on one head. Our own heads of course but the point is we look strange if we don’t color our hair and $60 a pop for the salon is not happening folks.
So after the hand and foot area was all shined up ( I so should have shaved), Andrea and I had our lunch: I had chicken and bread. Andrea had chicken and salad. It was good. Also, during lunch, Andrea informed me that I wasn’t the only one learning something about the ladies there at the salon. Her manicurist told her she was once fired because she just had to attend a sale to get some shoes that she wanted. They were obviously “to get fired for” and she told Andrea that the job may not have lasted but she still had her shoes! It is nice to see a woman with her priorities straight. I’m just glad there were no good sales that day or else Andrea would have been painting her own nails.
The whole hair process went great. It was the make-up that had me nervous. She stuccoed me. She concealed me. She powdered me. And then she gave me blue eye shadow? What? My sister said I looked like someone straight out of the movie Memoirs of a Geisha. That is not quite the look I was hoping for. Oh well. I guess you can’t have everything and my toes were looking pretty cute if I should say so myself. I just wiped off the blue concrete ASAP. We were going to my favorite place while we waited for the next showing of the movie and I had to look decent.
So, we headed off to have coffee at Barnes and Noble and then after went eat some big fat Greek food. B&N; is always fun and I just love re
ading books and taking notes without spending money. HOW do they make money? Would someone please tell me? I mean, every time I am there I see dozens of people just reading books and then putting them back on the shelf. How is this profitable? Just wondering. Anyway, I love it so don’t change it. My notebook is full of good stuff I found while at Barnes & Noble.
The Greek food was an adventure. I have had it before but never at this particular place and I was a bit upset that my pita wouldn’t open so I could stuff my Chicken Shawarma into it. How else is one supposed to eat Chicken Shawarma? So I did what any normal person would do, I just poured it on top of the unopened pita bread and rolled it up. The waitress didn’t look amused. I think my sister was embarrassed so it all worked out.
The movie, Eagle Eye, was pretty good too. It was action packed and thought provoking. I really liked it and it was the perfect end to our day. All in all we had a great time spending the day together and I hope we can do it again soon. Or she can just buy me that Chi flat iron. I’m cool with that, really.
I’ll leave you with this look that I get from her often….
So that is my story and I’m sticking to it. However, if you really want to see what Andrea has to say then you can read this: Andrea‘s post.

I LOVE it! Sorry about the “blue eye shadow”….I totally understand. I don’t do blue.
I am glad you had a good time though! Sisters make the best- “best friends”….I should know.
Now you’ve got me wanting a “dot-com”….
Love the new blog! Looks like you had a wonderful spa re”treat”!
Wanted to let you know I tagged you for a middle name meme. No obligation, I just needed an “A” and you were the first one to pop in my mind!!
Have a great day!
Oh, how fun! Sounds like the two of you had a great time. My little sister and I did a spa day the day before she got married. It was wonderful. My hubs treated me to a massage when I was pregnant with my third. I highly recommend a massage if you haven’t had one. It was a gift from heaven!
Blessings to you my friend,
Jen
Looks like the two of you had a wonderful day. I agree with you on the salon color. My budget just simply can’t afford that.
I love your hair by the way. That cut looks so cute on you.
I love your personal blog
) and I can relate to your relationship with your sis! My sis and I weren’t always the best of friends… but now we are and we are trying to plan a way to move much closer to each other!
OMG, I totally forgot about the Greek food and that was some good meat. I was so full I almost could not drive. We should share a plate next time. You are so not getting a Chi from me b/c I am “Chi”p. Sorry, but it was fun. Maybe we can splurge again sometime.
Love ya tista!
