10 Minute Dishwasher Maintenance & More!

Does your dishwasher get grimy like mine? Well, here is a one cycle solution for you.

  1. Remove the utensil holder and wipe down to free it of any stuck on particles.
  2. Using a few paper towels, carefully wipe the bottom of the dishwasher out to remove any loose bits of debris that may be camping out there.
  3. Put two cups of vinegar in the bottom of the dishwasher.
  4. Start the Energy or Low Wash cycle and stop the cycle midway to let the vinegar soak the bottom for about 20 minutes and it will work it’s magic. Then, finish the cycle.
  5. Wipe out the dishwasher and step back to admire you hard work.

Ahhh… feels good doesn’t it?

Do you have any good tips when it comes to the dishwasher?

Here are more of my dishwasher tips:

  • Never place sharp knives with the blade pointed upward. Secure it blade side down in the utensils basket to prevent cuts when emptying the dishwasher.
  • Don’t limit your dishwasher to dishes. Use it to clean your candle holders, pencil cups, plastic storage bins, Legos, dustpan, Crocs, hairbrush and more!
  • Make sure spoons and forks aren’t nestled together.
  • Instead of using the heat dry just open up the dishwasher and let them air dry.

I run mine empty with a pack of lemonade koolaid instead of dish detergent every so often when it needs it. Cleans it great every time.

OK…now I feel like a terrible housekeeper! I keep our house pretty clean (except for those glass shelves in the fridge – always gross no matter how often I wipe them down!), but I never really thought about cleaning out the dishwasher outside of just wiping the inside now and then. I’m going to clean the dishwasher right now! And..I didn’t know you could put crocs in there…those are next! Thanks for the tip!

Those are all great dishwasher tips. I found that I did not use my dishwasher much. THEN I had my baby. Now it is running with bottles, sippy cups, etc. So, thanks again.

Thanks Amy, I’ll give this a try.

For my disposal I put in my left over lemon rinds, it makes it smell fresh and clean.

Blessings!

Man, vinegar is the greatest! I was using all the specialty cleaners on my stainless steel appliances, only to see them STREAKING silver. A little vinegar and water makes it all better. Love it. Now if I could just find a remedy to get rid of the vinegar smell.

Amy,
Awesome tips – ok now you got me curious about the crocs. Any type of crocs? What about the Mammoth ones with the inserts? Do you just wash your crocs with dishwashing detergent or do you use something else? Never in million years would I have thought of this (and some of the other things you mentioned). Awesome!!!
