We Decided to Fireproof Our Marriage In New Orleans

I got a big surprise this weekend when my husband announced that we were going on a weekend (or overnight) getaway. He had prearranged the hotel, the events, arranged to have the boys visit their dad, and even got a dogsitter for Sarge so we could spend some time together. It was so worth it!

I quickly packed all the essentials, you know, clothing, toiletries, chocolate, things like that. Then we headed off to NOLA.

We rode around the city for a bit and then checked into our room. By now it was around 4 in the evening and we were a bit hungry so we decided to get dinner early. I’m glad we did because Ryan had made other plans for us as well.

We had dinner at a nice restaurant and then went back to our room. Out came the Fireproof Your Marriage Couple’s Kit. We did the first lesson together. It was so great! We talked about so many things and cleared up so many issues we thought we had. He promised that we’d do one lesson a week until we were complete. I was really excited about the whole process. Then, of course, we watched the movie together.

The next morning we slept in. Need I say more? It felt so good to be in that big comfy bed with those soft pillows. Awe man. I gotta get me some of those! When we finally got over our laziness woke up, we got dressed and headed to Wendy’s for lunch. Then it was over to a museum that we have wanted to attend for a long time. The D-Day Museum.

The trip to this museum was important to Ryan and I for so many reasons but mainly because we both come from military families. We each have several family members currently serving (my brother, Sgt. Ryan M Grant being one of them) and have had numerous other families who served tours in wars. My grandpa, who was a Master Gunnery Sergeant in the Marine Corps with 27 years, 1 tour of Korea, and 2 tours of Vietnam under his belt, always told us that the military was in our blood. I believe that. There is just something about the integrity, honor, and courage it takes for these men and women to do what they do that just amazes me. I want to pay them every respect possible. I salute them all.

This museum spoke volumes about the history behind World War II and the struggles these soldiers, and the world faced. The country pulled together for the greater good and it served the world in return.

I had such a great time this weekend. I’m so glad that my husband is so thoughtful and took the time to do this for me. It was very enlightening and oh so good for our marriage. Thank you, honey! I had a great time! :)

Hey Amy, I found your blog and WOW, you went to the D-Day museum. We went a few years ago before Kat-Hurricane. My husband and I are WWI and II buffs and love the history. They have a civil war museum, did you make it to that one?
