He absolutely does provide!

I’ve been awfully frustrated lately with the state of our current economy and just our state’s overall condition. I’ve spent days helping my brother look for employment. There is nothing. A man can serve his country overseas and come home and have no income. I just thank God that he does not have a family yet. That would be unthinkable.

I absolutely have faith in God’s promises but I’d be lying if I said I always had a peaceful content spirit about me when it comes to finances and needs. The truth is I throw lots of fits. I do that when I am not in control of something. It is like a natural reaction. Thankfully, God teaches us the principles to change those natural sin reactions and gives us the Holy Spirit to encourage us to make Godly choices. I have had to make those quite often lately.

One of the main prayers I pray is for God to just change my mindset. I may not want to think this way or do things in another way but I ask Him to change my heart about it. He absolutely does.

Just this past Sunday in church we had to sit in the back because we were running a bit late. We usually sit in the front so I can hear better but for some strange reason I was okay with not sitting in “our” seat. After worship was over we are usually asked to greet one another and that usually puts me in a tizzy. I have no idea why but I am just not comfortable with this practice. I always feel weird like I am being forced to be nice or something. Idk. I make no excuses. I have no idea where this pattern of thought comes from but I did ask God to change my heart this Sunday.

When announcements were done and the pastor asked us to turn around and greet one another I did not even hesitate. I can’t explain it. One or two people even tried to pretend they didn’t see me wanting to greet them but I did it anyway. Then there was this sweet little couple that seemed overly excited to have me tell them good morning. It did my heart good.

I sat down so content and happy that God had given me the grace to do that. I immediately thanked Him and prepared my notebook for the message that was about to be delivered. That is when she tapped me on the shoulder.

This sweet, older lady that had been so happy for me to say good morning to her put some cash in my hand and said, “this is for the baby.” I was dumbfounded. I turned to thank her and she just smiled and said, “shhh!” and started to read in her bible. I’d never had this happen before. I didn’t know what to think. I went to show my husband and that is when we noticed that it was a $50 bill. Wow. Okay, Lord. I get it. I really do. I hope.

I was so thankful for that. Then the whole message was about how the Lord provides exactly what we need each and every day and how we shouldn’t worry about it. Worrying is the devil’s way of stealing time away from us. We can’t worry about what might not ever happen and even if it does happen the worrying can’t change it.

With that I went home and thanked the Lord for all that He has provided us with. He even gave me a new way to look at coupon/sale shopping!

I used to see it as tedious. I would do it but I wasn’t excited about it so I prayed for a change of heart. If I needed to do it then I could at least be content with it. He changed my heart. I began to see it just like I do that one shopping day of the year that I love: Black Friday. My sister and I scour the ads looking for great deals. It is like winning the lottery when you find things that have been on your “one day” list and can purchase them for just a fraction of the cost.

Now I see every Saturday as my “Black Saturday”. I scour the ads and coupons just looking for stuff we use and only pay a fraction of the cost. Why pay full price when they will give it to your for 70% off? It is such a joy now!

My challenge is to spend less than $75 a week on groceries including toiletries and cleaning supplies. I hear other people do it on $40 a week but we have no stores here that double coupons and there are no Aldi’s or Kroeger’s here so I have to deal with what we are provided with. So far I have been able to shop each week for less than $75.

I haven’t been to CVS in a while because we didn’t have one nearby but that all changed a few months ago. A CVS opened up just right down the road and so I decided to start saving once again using their method. For those of you who aren’t sure how the CVS method works check out these sites: The Thrifty Mom and Money Saving Mom. There are also many more links to money saving blogs in my sidebar feed.

Here is my first trip to CVS. I got everything pictured here for $42.59 and have $7 in Extra Care Bucks to use towards my next purchase. In addition to shopping for only what was on sale I used coupons that totaled $32.66! I would have had to buy this stuff in the near future anyway so by buying it a few weeks early I put more than $32.66 back in our pocket!

I’m excited about this stuff now! I can’t stop looking for resources.

I also shopped a great sale at Albertson’s this week. You get $10 back by spending $30 on Proctor and Gamble products. I bought two of the 60 roll packs of toilet paper at $15.95 each and used two coupons for $2.00 off so I saved a total of $14 on these items that we use everyday, many times a day. We should not have to buy more until next year! :)

While I was there I picked up a couple more things that were on sale and that I had a coupon for. I only buy what I know we will use. I saved more than I spent and that makes me happy!

I thank God that He changes our hearts when we ask Him to. This may be minor to some people but this is such a big deal for me. I’m actually excited about it!

So, the first thing I take away from your post it the example that when we are faithful and obedient to the Father, he will bless us for our obedience. You put yourself out there… greeting people, even when you were uncomfortable. You were obedient and he blessed you. I am not saying every time you are obedient to the Lord, he will pay you back monetarily. Many times the blessings come in other forms. I just love this very specific example. Jehovah Jireh- the Lord will provide!
Also, way to go on the savings at the store.

Exactly, Lisa! He provided me with so much more than $50 last weekend. I got a new and improved outlook, peace, joy, and new found wisdom. I've been in awe for two days now just thinking about it. He is so good to us!

Amy – I am right there with you. The message this weekend was GREAT! I worry too much. I need to learn how to do the CVS thing and remember to use the coupons that I cut out.

I love your "Black Saturday" outlook! I, too, am recently scouring coupons and sales and the like (and why oh why can't we have a double or triple coupon spot where I live, either — MAKE ME STOP COMPLAINING) and most of the time I'm okay with it, though sometimes it gets wearisome. For me it's Tuesday. Hereafter: Black Tuesday. Love it.

God is so awesome and what a blessing it was for that older lady too! Great CVS finds….I use Walgreens and have for 2 1/2 years…why pay full price when you don't have too? :)

I thank God for changing our hearts too! He has been doing that with me. I've been praying a couple of specific things recently. And I struggled in one certain area for quite awhile. And then yesterday – God gave me my light switch moment. That's a moment when suddenly, everything is changed for the good and I can see the light! I think it's often those moments when the head knowledge finally makes it to the heart. Anyway, I am so thankful for the light switch moment God gave me yesterday resulting in a wonderful, positive change of mindset and attitude.

I also surf the ads and coupons and try to shop the sales. I've not done the CVS thing before though. Maybe I should give that a try. Wal-Mart does price matching so I often take the local ads and just do most of my shopping there since they'll match the price in the ad. It saves some time on my part – not having to run around to all the different stores to get the sale prices.

I absolutely loved reading about the Lord providing $50 through the lady sitting behind you in church. How awesome!

Hope you have a great week!
Karen

Yes, so thankful that God changes our hearts when we ask and allow Him to do Hi work in our lives. Go thankful, too, that He has provided for you and your family is such a real and special way!

Wow! I've been praying for God to change my views on money. I don't cook at home (you may already know that) but I need to start doing it some — and I really, really need to use coupons, buy on sale and all that good stuff. I know it, I just think it's tedious and better for others. Still in the midst of praying for a change of heart. I know God will do it. He's done it for some other things for me before!

Miss talking to you and yes, I need to get back to AWI. I haven't forgotten about you ;)

Praise God!! That's so exciting and encouraging. We have such a tremendous and amazing God, yet how often we just try to "handle" things on our own. We're so silly like that. But there He is, patiently waiting for us. I love hearing His answers to prayer. I'm sure He will continue to bless you as you seek His face.

love,
dianne

I LOVE bargain hunting! When it comes to clothing and things for the home, I target those items that are at least 70-75% off. It's like an addiction (bad, I know!).

So glad you got some great deals and have a change of heart! Being a good steward of what God has given us is absolutely something to be excited about!

And how sweet of that lady to bless you like that. It makes me smile big time when God shows us things so clearly and tangibly.

Oh Amy, what a beautiful testimony!! Thanks so much for sharing this.

I believe the lady you blessed you was the one who got blessed the MOST!!!!!

Tonya is really into coupons and doing great. Once I get home, (still in Memphis) I'm going to start doing this too. I love bargins.

I've been using all the sale ads and bringing them to Wal-Mart weekly and they match all the sales! So I wait and get what I need only when it's on sale now.

We went out to eat here last night and the lady had a coupon for 25.00 at this place, off the internet. I thought, WOW!!

Can't wait to get into this. God truly honors us being wise with the manna He give us daily.

Blessings to you my sweet friend.

We need to get together, soon!

I wanted to encourage you and tell you the $75 goal is not out of reach for food and household items. That is what I work with on a regular basis.

I don't have the double coupons, Aldi's, Kroegers, or even a CVS. It can be done and YOU can do it!

Have you ever heard of the grocery game? (thegrocerygame.com) Right now they have a free trial offer. I have been GG'ing for over a year now! Check it out and see what you think.

I would love to hear if you decide to give it a try and/or have any questions about it!

Thanks also for the testimony wrapped in this as to God's faithful provisions!! That's just like Him, isn't it?!

Please tell me how you only spend $75 a week on groceries. I do have a Kroger and I do use coupons only for what I know we will use.I buy a lot of ground turkey but I have not been able to get our food bill that low. Thank you for all your encouraging words. I love your site.

I struggle with this all the time. I crave security and knowing what the big picture is, yet it never works out that way.

I had a great Black Friday today myself…no fancy electronics but was able to get a lot of stuff I've been needing.
