She Speaks 2011 just wrapped up yesterday. I didn’t go this year but it sure is wild how God works things out. It all began two years ago at She Speaks 2009. That was an amazing experience. God provided the money for me to go because we didn’t have it at the time. He was in it from the beginning and He paved the way for so many things that were to come.
It’s funny though… when I left home to go there I was empty, hurt, broke, stressed out and physically ill. I went there hoping for a book contract that might alleviate some of those issues. God didn’t say no but I knew that He was pointing me in a different direction. He revealed to me part of His plan before I ever talked to a publisher or agent. He told me I’d give this book away online. I knew I’d be making it into an ebook. I needed confirmation though and so I did what any good Christian girl would do. I went to the prayer room.
I had heard about this room from previous attendees. It is the kind of thing you don’t believe until you experience it. God is there. He meets you in so many ways that you can’t even fathom it all.
Prior to the conference each lady’s name was placed on one of the names of God. In the weeks before the conference the P31 ladies prayed for each and every one of us. They placed our names where they felt led to and in the prayer room my name was on Johovah-Jireh – The Lord will provide.
That had special meaning for me. We had very little money coming in. We had gone through over a year of infertility. I was having trouble figuring out how to accomplish the things God wanted me to do online and now I had no idea how I’d be distributing this “free” ebook.
But He provided.
Instead of coming home with a hope and a promise or a contract I came home with a renewed faith in Him. And a new online ministry partner: Lisa Boyd (who is one of the most amazing women ever and the girl ROCKS at WordPress and other technological phooey stuff); and I had breakfast with Lysa TerKeurst and Holly; and Ryan got a new (better paying) job; and I discovered I was pregnant! The pregnant thing happened right before I left for She Speaks though… not like at She Speaks or anything. Just clarifying, know what I mean.
Things that God put into place years ago are happening right before my very eyes. Things I did not understand then are making more sense now. I see things so differently from when I first attended that conference. Don’t get me wrong. If I was given the opportunity to publish a book then I’d likely jump on it but the difference is that I’m no longer leaving that in the hands of someone else. The success of the words and ideas that He has given me to share will depend on a lot of things but it won’t depend on a publisher.
I have many friends who are published authors. I’ve heard the stories they tell and not all of them are pleasant. Authors are not rich by any means and in fact, some spend more than they’ll ever make just to sell the books that were published. But times have changed.
Authors of ebooks are now just as recognized as print published authors. Some even make more money by publishing ebooks. In fact, many successful authors are now publishing ebooks because they can make more money that way. And this playing field is wide open. You can do it too. I’m convinced that there is a book inside each and every one of us. All we need is someone to help us bring it to fruition.
In walks Sarah Mae from Like a Warm Cup of Coffee.
I know most of you know her from around the Blogosphere. She is just like us. She simply worked a strategy and found success. She authored an ebook: 31 Days to Clean a couple of months ago. She sold it for $4.99 (part of her strategy) and made $20,000 in a month. And it is still selling.
The success of the first ebook prompted her to write a second one (only $4.99): How to Market and Sell Your Ebook. It is good, folks. Don’t wait for a publisher to come knocking on your door before you release the book inside of you. Publish it now in ebook and watch how fast they come running. If you show that you have a platform to sell and an established customer base then you are already the type of writer they are looking for. Not to mention the fact that you hold your future in your own hands.
Sarah Mae has it all laid out for you in this ebook. She covers everything from writing the ebook to how to get it out there in front of the masses. I was impressed with some of the techniques she used but she gave me the confidence to do them myself. And I plan on it.
If you are thinking of writing and marketing your own ebook then I highly suggest that you read Sarah Mae’s book first (only $4.99): How to Market and Sell Your Ebook.
