Do you remember the Rice Crispies commercial where the woman covers her face with flour and water from the fishbowl to make it look like she has spent hours baking? That was a classic. I love that. I don’t think I ever tire of it and the message it so true. Rice Crispies Treats are so easy to make. This is one recipe I cannot overlook for the holidays.
How to make Rice Crispy Treats
All you need is a few ingredients:
- 4 cups of puffed rice cereal
- 1 stick of butter
- 1 bag of marshmallows
- 2 cups of extra yummyness: M&Ms, chocolate chips, nuts, or any other filler you might like in your bars
Grease a large cookie sheet or baking pan and set aside. Put the marshmallows and butter in a non-stick pan and melt over medium-high heat while constantly stirring. After it is completely melted pour the cereal in a little at a time. Stirring the cereal in over the stove keeps the butter/marshmallow concoction from hardening too soon. After the cereal is mixed well with the marshmallows and butter turn off the heat. Now add the extra yummyness. Stir well. Pour into the greased pan and use a greased spreader to spread it out flat into the pan. Put it into the fridge for about an hour. Remove the pan and flip the whole thing onto a cutting board. Cut into squares and serve. Yum, right?

Amy, first I promise never – EVER to write this long of a comment again. Second, I’ll explain why this man type face is in your comment section. I know lots of women that were at Relevant – and so I followed that conference twitter stream – and I saw you there – there was even a flat Craig attending. And I was at Blissdom last year, and will be again in March, and so I also noticed you in that twitter stream. I blog in this community brimming with full of awesome Christian moms, because Christian moms write about God like nothing I’ve ever read before. I went through all of seminary, and was assigned only read book written by a woman. Christian moms have access to the love of God like no one else. And now I get access too – by reading and being read. Anyway, that’s how I found you.
Also, by the way, my comments won’t always be this long, just this first one to say hi – and make sure it’s okay that I comment on your site. Being a single, never been married man in this community, I’ve learned a tiny bit of sensitivity – enough to know I shouldn’t just barge in without explaining why.
Anyway I was looking for a place for my first comment, and I don’t cook so that got me past the first post – I don’t use much makeup or beauty kind of stuff – so I didn’t participate in the giveaway – I skipped the next one too – and I started looking at the Rice Krispie treats, but know I’ll never make them, so I skipped that – but lingered on the pictures (nom). I heart YOUR heart for Compassion – but didn’t comment there. But the TV screen being passed over your head – in your Black Friday post – and the way you do your gifts for your children – so you can focus on the better things of the holiday instead of all the emphasis on gifts – but there are still gifts – and surprises. That’s the kind of thing that makes me smile – that’s the smart and loving mom stuff that I read that gives me insight into how the love of a Christian mom echoes the love of God in a way different from the way I naturally understand.
And I know you’re a Christian – so I imagine if I peek further I’ll find faith-based posts – and even if I didn’t – your Christian mom heart would be reflected in so much of what you write. But I couldn’t see where to put this comment on the shopping post – so I came back to the Rice Krispie post – and so here it is.
Anyway, I look forward to reading you up until Blissdom, and after that. And I promise I’ll never write a comment this long again. God bless and keep you and each and every one of yours Amy.
This might be the perfect thing for me to bring to our teacher potluck. I’m going to ‘pin’ your recipe on Pinterest so I’ll have it for future reference. Thanks Amy!
Blessings and love,
Debbie
I like to cut mine out with cookie cutters. Put them in a funnel to set and you have a huge “kiss”…. So versatile! Love them! Thank you
That is a great idea, Kathleen!
