Holiday Entertaining: Dessert with Friends

Thanks to Duncan Hines for sponsoring my writing. There’s no limit to the baking possibilities, so grab your favorite Duncan Hines mix and Comstock or Wilderness fruit fillings and Bake On! www.duncanhines.com.

Some of my most favorite holiday memories are of family and friends. There is nothing like getting together with the girls for some  great food and fun!

One year my sister and I threw a party with some of our girlfriends and their husbands. We had lots of food, some catching up time and of course, the White Elephant Game! Ryan ended up with a used doorknob (?) and I got a wall hanging candle holder that can double as a fish bowl. Well, at least that is what Jodi said. You’ve gotta love the White Elephant Game!

We made it even more fun because we blindfolded the person who was about to choose a gift. That way we had to choose based on felling the packages and not by sight alone. I’m fairly certain Ryan swiped once or twice and knocked all of the gifts on the floor. It was hilarious!

One of our go -to desserts is Ooey Gooey Butter Cake. It is easy and super tasty.

It is so easy to make and it is always a hit with guests. Here are the ingredients you’ll need:

  • 1 box white or yellow cake mix
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 c. butter (melted)
  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • chocolate chips, nuts, or any other goodies you want to add!

Preheat oven to 350°.  Mix butter with 1 egg and cake mix. Spread into a buttered 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 inch glass pan. Be sure to cover the bottom completely. Beat 2 eggs, cream cheese, and powdered sugar. Pour over cake mix mixture. Sprinkle chocolate chips or additional “goodies” over the top. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until top is golden brown.

Comments

  1. Can’t wait to make this!  You always have the BEST ideas and recipes.  I made a “quick” Jambalaya ( I know there really is no such thing) this last weekend and thought of you.  It came out surprisingly well!

  2. It looks delicious. I wonder where I can find that yellow or white cake mix. Do you have certain recommended brand for it (beside Duncan Hines)?

  3. I see chocolate chips, but I don’t see them in the ingredients….

    • That is so funny! You’re right. I decided to add the chocolate chips at the last minute because I had some left over from some pumpkin chocolate chip cupcakes that I made. I copied the recipe from my index card and forgot to add them to the ingredients. I’m glad you caught it, Misty!
