I debated over and over about writing this.

I don’t want to get ahead of the process and I don’t want to jinx anything. I hesitated because I am just fearful that something could go wrong but I am too excited to keep quiet…

Yes, we will be in a new home, this home, after mid-June.

It was all kind of sudden. Last year we had our house on the market for quite a while and nothing came of it. This time, we put our house on the market, stuck a sign in the yard, and got an offer 24 hours later. It is a true God story, complete with rainbows, that I will wait to tell until after it fully transpires.

We are three weeks away from our new home and things are somewhat busy around here. In addition to packing and simplifying, I am also trying to finish some design work, cheer at my boys’ baseball games, attend all of the student events that happen at this time of year, and still have time to breathe.

All of that to say I am still here! I’ll just be posting sporadically for a while. I have been posting a lot of giveaways and sponsored posts but that won’t be a regular thing here. I just figured now was a good time to offer them to you. Once I get back to regular posting they will be few and far between. I blog because I love it and I enjoy getting to know y’all. I don’t do it to make you a number on a list that gets me additional funds for advertising.

I’ll be changing my blog up a bit when I return regularly. I am taking a very different direction with my online presence. I want it to be about the people and the relationships. I want it to be about you; us. We work well together don’t you think?

You won’t find any “follow me for a chance to win” or any of that stuff. I want you to be here because you find value in what I offer or because you have something you genuinely want to share with me and others about the topics I write about. I’m so over the gimmicks. Though I will still take on a few sponsors, I won’t be focused on advertising or promotion so having the additional subscribers & followers isn’t necessary. I want to build relationships with those of you who followed because you are generally interested. Reputable large companies frown on that type of promotion anyway.

I have felt in limbo for the last couple of years because we have been planning to buy a new house for that long. I’ve had stuff packed, avoided making too many changes (that wouldn’t reap a return profit), and just had the “when we get in our new home” frame of mind. I finally feel free.

With the purchase of the new house I will have lots of decorating, design, and gardening posts. Stuff I have wanted to blog about for a long time. Oh my, you should see my boards on Pinterest. I’ll also have the kitchen I’ve always wanted so I will finally be posting all of my good ol’ Cajun recipes. You’ll also see my regular stuff: organization, printables, DIY, natural cleaning, and inspiration. I do hope you’ll join me!

  1. Just wanted to let you know that I have spent the past few months reading your blog (I loved it so much I went back to the very first post and started from there). You have made me laugh, cry, and a few times you stepped on my toes and made me mad. 🙂
Congratulations on the new house and I hope you get back to blogging soon!

  2. I was cleaning up my e-mail and found this post I missed (I’ve missed a lot lately). I’m SO HAPPY for you and your family! I had just been thinking about you and wondering how the house thing was going, because my sister had been trying to sell her house, too & they finally got it sold. I was glad to hear your happy news. I am looking forward to the new home posts!

  3. I just found this post in my e-mail… funny thing was I was thinking about you all trying to sell your house and wondering how that was going. 6. Hi Amy

  7. So excited to hear that you are moving Amy!

Thanks for having the courage to post about the sponsored posts and such. I have been feeling the exact way lately on my own blog. I have gotten away from the personal stuff and only been posting giveaways and such and i MISS all the relational posts.

Thanks for the encouragement that I CAN make a change back in the other direction.

  8. Congrats on the new house…I can totally relate to the “limbo” feeling. I just started following you…I can’t wait to dig in :o), it’s nice to see one that isn’t all about the $. Have a blessed holiday weekend.

  9. Congratulations! I can’t wait to hear the story! I’m also very fond of the new direction – I’ve been thinking the same thing about my blog direction lately. I think I may take that leap with you, after I finish up the rest of my already-committed projects. Thanks for being such a wonderful inspiration!

Congratulations it looks like a beautiful home!! So happy for you 🙂

  22. Congratulations! How very exciting. Some are vagabonds and don’t need roots and are content with a suitcase or box being their home. I for one appreciate the home with four walls and rooms, a place I can call home and invite others into my heart. Again, congratulations!

  23. Cheryl Hammer says:

  28. So happy for you! I can appreciate the fact that your blog is a priority – just not the highest one. I will be here to read when you get settled

  29. Firstly congrats on the new home!! it looks beautiful. Isn’t it fascinating how sometimes it takes a dream to have to die – before it comes into being? And thank you for choosing to detour around the gimmicks and the self-promotion that blogland is full of. How refreshing!

  30. Awesome! So happy for you, Amy! I’m sure you will love your new home! May it be filled with many blessings!

  33. Oh YAY for you!!! Patience pays!!!!!!! You mentioned “Cajun recipes” and I chuckled. I picked up some pre-seasoned Cajun Chicken at Fresh n Easy the other day. It tasted delish ~~~ that is until ~~~ my son and I could feel our ears catch fire! Oh my, It. Was. SO. HOT! Wishing you well as you prepare for your move in earnest!

  34. I am so excited for you! YES! I’ll be following your journey. I wouldn’t miss it! I can’t wait to see all the crafty projects you come up with!

  35. Hey! I’m new here. Just recently subscribed and kinda wondered what was going on. I was about the unsubscribe! Glad you explained! I’ll be looking forward to your posts once you get settled! Congrats on the move and new house!

  36. Congratulations! There is definitely nothing like a move to a new home to help motivate you to get things organized and accomplished as well as give you a fresh start. It is a lot of work, but the payoff in the end is worth it. I love starting over in a new home, making changes that make it ours, finding new systems for managing things, and just getting to know a new area and the people and places around it.

Try to keep sane. I look forward to seeing you back here soon!

For what it is worth…YEARS ago, I wrote an enormously long blog post (before I learned that I could maybe split up my ideas into multiple posts!!!) with all of my best moving tips. Some of the tips were for if you were hiring professional movers, but there is still a number of items that pertain, even if you are moving yourself. http://www.northofthe49.com/blog/?p=116

  37. Congratulations on your New House! I am thrilled for you and looking forward to following you on your New Journey in this season of life:)

  38. Praise the Lord!

My niece has coined a phrase; she is decompressing stress in her life. I love the ideas for your blog. Sometimes less really is better; more true and enjoyable. I don’t read these blogs to have to jump through hoops. So, I think you are on the right track and I will be here with you. Congratulations on your new house and I look forward to watching you make it into the home of your dreams.

  40. “You won’t find any “follow me for a chance to win” or any of that stuff. ”

I am so done with ‘subscribe’ to get this helpful .pdf, or subscribe (or tweet) to be entered with 5 gazillion other people to win this prize!

Seriously, if a person has to bribe someone to read their blog, what does that say?
