Maybe it is because I have boys but I know I say, “Did you brush your teeth?” at least 20 times a day. With that in mind, getting them to floss is like pulling teeth. Okay, that is not a good idiom to use when talking about healthy teeth. Moving on…
Because I have boys I know there is one thing that can motivate them like nothing else: competition. No matter what it is — number of touchdowns, amount of grits eaten, earliest to wake up in the morning — they always compete with each other. Somebody has to win.
I’m a smart mom. I use this knowledge to my advantage. That is why I was excited about the LISTERINE SMART RINSE Sweet Smart Oral Care Challenge. Over the next three weeks my boys will be competing to see who gets the most props for brushing, flossing and rinsing properly. Of course, this is an attempt to get the kids in the habit of doing this without being told. In order to monitor the competition, I mean, progress, I have this nifty chart I made. Each kiddo will get a sticker for that day if they completely took care of their teeth.
We were sent an assortment of adult and children’s products from the makers of LISTERINE® and REACH®. In addition to that we attended a webinar with tips from pediatric dentist Dr. Kaneta Lott. We learned so much. Here is just a glimpse:
- 44 percent of American kids will suffer from pediatric dental disease before they reach kindergarten
- Of the 4 million kids born each year, more than half will have cavities by the time they reach 2nd grade
- 43% of Americans lack dental insurance
- All in all, 16 million kids suffer from untreated dental disease
We also learned about America’s Tooth Fairy. They are a non-profit organization focused on reducing preventable dental disease in children. You can help less fortunate children who are currently suffering from dental problems. All you have to do is check out the fundraising efforts for Trick or Treat for America’s Tooth Fairy.
You can also join me and my boys in the LISTERINE SMART RINSE Sweet Smart Oral Care Challenge and if you do, grab a coupon here: $1 off Listerine Kid’s Rinse or Reach Kids product coupon and grab the printable for the competition, I mean, challenge.
For best results, laminate it and hang it up on the refrigerator or in the bathroom. Give the child one sticker for each day they successfully brush, floss, and rinse.
This is a sponsored post compliments of The Motherhood and Listerine. All opinions expressed are my own. I am compensated for my participation in the challenge and I received free products.

we use a timer to see who can brush the longest. First it was one minute. Then it was two. Now we’re doing three minutes. I know about boys and competition. See who can floss and show how much they’ve pulled out between their teeth. Sounds gross, but it will be an eye opener for them. LOL
